LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS
LEAD Greater Williamsburg
LEAD is a community-immersion program that provides opportunities for recognized and emergent leaders to collaborate on issues of importance to the region.
Participation in LEAD requires a serious commitment of time and energy. The program consists of a welcome reception, class orientation, an overnight two-day retreat, eight day-long sessions once a month addressing topics of community interest and concern. Class topics include:
Familiarization Tour
History, Culture, and Media
Courts and Public Safety
Local Government, Mock City Council and Budget Exercise
General Assembly
Health and Human Services and the Faith-Based Community
Pre-K—12 and Higher Education
Economic Drivers: Business and Military

The program also includes a class project that will require at least 40-60 additional hours outside of regular class time and a final-day evaluation. There are other optional social event scheduled throughout the year.
Community Leadership Service (CLS)
The mission of CLS is to provide current and prospective retirees a broader understanding of the Historic Triangle—its people, needs, governing bodies, and key institutions—and to encourage participants to pursue volunteer leadership roles in the community.
The biennial program begins with an orientation session in late-January, meets weekly, and ends with a debriefing and recognition ceremony in early-April. CLS is especially attractive to area newcomers, retirees, prospective retirees, and individuals with flexible schedules which allow them to participate in the weekly sessions.
Through a series of eleven exciting, day-long sessions, participants receive a view into the inner-workings of the Historic Triangle, gaining unequalled access to local leaders in areas including:
Area History
Destination Marketing and Tourism
Healthcare
Courts and Public Safety
Education
Human Services
Arts and Culture
Government
Military
